This isn't the first time I've seen this ad on the subway, but for some reason it made me chuckle Friday afternoon so I took a hot pic. Although, for accuracy, the sign should probably read: "Last year, 44 brown people were needlessly harassed and 1900 people freaked out over abandoned Duane Reade bags."
Teach those terrorists to save big on sanitary napkins...

There are two pathetic things about that ad. One: 1,944? That's supposed to be a lot, in a city of eight million? Two: The ad has been around since 2007, which means "last year" refers to 2006, and the number went way down in 2007 to the NYPD's and MTA's shame.
Yes! And I don't remember anyone finding anything in last...well, ever. So this would 1,944 non-incidents.
Wait, I don't get it. I can't read the fine print on the poster and I'm lucky enough to not have to live in NY, so maybe I'm just not "in on the lingo."
But, are they saying that 1,994 suspicious things were reported by someone last year and each of those things was seen by exactly one additional person who didn't report it?
Or did they really somehow figure out a way to tally all of the people who didn't do something? Is someone sitting on a corner with a clicker counting all the people who pass by an empty box? Do you guys have to keep an online journal now of all the things you see and whether or not you call the cops about it?
